Brahmasri Alladi Mahadeva Sastri, a great vedic scholar served as the first curator at the Oriental Research Institute in Mysore. Later as the director of the Adyar Library in Madras in the 1920.

The whole Alladi family has contributed significantly to arts and culture! 🙏
His other important works include the translation of the Dakshinamurthy Stotram and the Taittiriya Upanishad.

Both these books are absolutely brilliant! Everyone must read them!
Sastri was born in May 1861 in Puduru, Nayudupeta in Nellore District, Andhra. He studied Telugu, Sanskrit and Vedam in his village. He passed matriculation from Kurnool High School. He got a BA degree from Presidency College, Madras in 1883. Later the family moved to Mysore.
The Maharaja of Mysore Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar had established the Oriental Research Institute in Mysore in 1891. Sastri served as the first curator. The institute has done some phenomenal contribution to Indic scholarship! 🙏
It was at this institute that the great scholar Mahamahopadhyay Rudrapatna Shyamashastry (1868 - 1944) discovered the only surviving palm leaf manuscript of Kautilya's 'Arthashastra', one of the greatest literary discoveries of the century!

Sastri worked with such greats! 🙏
Sastri taught Sanskrit to Annie Besant. He was influenced by the Theosophical movement of that era. He not only supported but also conducted the marriage of Rukminidevi and George Arundale.

Sharada Hoffman, one of the first students of @kalakshetrafdn is Sastri's granddaughter.
The Adyar Library was established by Col. Olcott in 1886. This image is from the inaugural ceremony with representatives of different religions.
In 1916, Mahadeva Sastri was made Director of the Oriental Section of the Adyar Library, a post he retained till his demise in 1926.
Under Sastri's guidance, the Adyar Library brought out lots of priceless books on various topics! From Upanishads to treatises on classical music, dance, Sanskrit, Shad Darshanas etc. 🙏
Sastri edited some of the most brilliant works in his tenure! Each book is a gem! Everyone must read them! 😊🙏
