This situation underscores how much is wrong with our politics. It’s not Feinstein’s age per se, but age along with profound privilege and wealth seem to drive her cluelessness and lack of accountability

No one wants to ask her to step down because too many of them are in the same boat: removed from the effects of their policies and inaction, weak leaders unwilling to fight for the people from whom they ask so much support.

They remain tied to their own wealth or to large donors who themselves often are removed from the consequences of protecting weak leaders.

They offer strongly worded press releases or tweets with no action to follow up. Everything on the table but nothing actually done.

@DickDurbin @PattyMurray and @SenSchumer are too comfortable and are weak leaders. They won’t fight for us. And yet they want to be protected as incumbents.

And yes, Feinstein’s past support of issues is laudable but not an excuse for a moribund chair of a critical committee
