My theory is/always has been that DT’s decision to run for President was/still is a *business grift.* The kicker is that I don’t think he completely intended to win! I’m no tax specialist, but I’m guessing there are even tax benefits for running a losing political campaign...
I’m thinking something similar to the multi-year tax deductions involved with significant business losses (you know, the thing DT ❤️s!). Anyway, when he won, the grift changed to making the US pay for as much of his businesses’ operating costs as possible. Guaranteed income.
It’s a truly incredible grift, actually. DT has a whole fleet of ppl that always need to be with him & the USG can’t receive “gifts” (free rooms, golf carts, meals, etc.), so they literally have to pay. So, DT just decides to go to one of his properties many times per month.
Think of the complexity & number of ppl involved. Now think of the cost/pp for travel & accommodation at country clubs in resort areas. Even in Scotland. And that’s just for his official duties. Then there’s the campaign. Often, he holds campaign events at his properties, too.
So, whatever the USG doesn’t pay for, the campaign does. And, then some! Again, think of the pp/complexity. It’s the bosses “work trip/vacation” on steroids. Usually, the USG paid market rate or higher for everything. Also, there’s lots of crossover of official & campaign staff.
Money (political donations) from the campaign gets paid out to DT’s properties, friends, supporters & family constantly. This has been going on for 5 years. All on top of what the USG is paying. It’s a wealth transfer scheme from public/political funds to private DT interests.
DT knows what he’s doing. This is who he has always been & he has tax/legal ppl to execute the plans. I struggle with saying he’s not smart bc I don’t think that’s true. True, he’s not knowledgeable about many things, but that’s different. And he’s ungainly, which doesn’t help.
