the internet today was depressing AF. my heart is exhausted.
What happened yesterday?

1.0 Yesterday, the officer to beat Abdirahman Abdi, a Black Somali-Canadian, to death in Ottawa in 2016, was acquitted of all charges.
1.1 Justice Robert Kelly of the Ontario Court of Justice declared he was not convinced that the police agent used force that was a substantial departure from what a reasonable police officer would do, or that it went beyond what's justified in the Criminal Code.
1.2 Sure, he acknowledged that Abdirahman Abdi's face was beat up and cracked, but he remains unconvinced that the blows were ultimately fatal.
2.0 Yesterday, many prominent figures of the QC government somehow all decided to talk about the U of Ottawa situation where a prof was suspended for using the N-word in class. What was their take on it?

THEY MADE IT ALL ABOUT FRENCH-BASHING & QUÉBEC-BASHING!!!
2.1 'coz the prof in question is from Québec y'know & many francophone students from QC go study at the U of Ottawa. So it's a cause for concern.

These same people who just two days ago were still refusing to acknowledge that there is such a thing as systemic racism in QC.
3.0 Also yesterday, Quebec Safety Minister Geneviève Guilbault has announced $65 million in spending on work by police forces in the province to counter organized crime and firearms trafficking.
3.1 That, despite the fact that just last week @TedRutland at @Concordia published a report that determined that 74% of those arrested by Montreal police's new anti-gun squad are Black, while the majority of these charges are actually drug-related. But hey, who cares?
4.0 And if you haven't been paying attention, in Nova Scotia, a bunch of white supremacists raided & burnt to the ground two facilities of the Sipekne'katik First Nation & have been harassing, bullying & threatening members of the Mi'kmaw communities over their right to fish.
4.1 Can you imagine the scandal, can you imagine the use of force, the kinds of military resources that would be deployed if this was the other way round, if it was a bunch of Indigenous or POC folks attacking white people?
CONCLUSION: there are days like these where the internet (i.e. the world, is depressing AF) & every piece of news you consume is here to remind you that white supremacy is well & alive & that it is a force that will wipe you, make you disappear & remind you that you don't matter.
