Advanced edge warmup progression exercise I like to use with players at the beginning of sessions, stacking small radius circles on top of each other using the appropriate edge for each circle direction to accelerate with mini edge pulls on that small radius. 1/4
Upper body placement is critical as well as removing unnecessary movement from body parts as all power can be generated independently from the skating leg. Players tend to rely on extraneous body parts to "help" the edges as opposed to developing independence of skating leg. 2/4
Ankle stability is also crucial as any collapse of the ankle laterally will diminish the power and control of the edges. Players that depend on a "relaxing" of the ankle to achieve an edge will especially notice how the edge fails in that position. 3/4
The backward outside edge is typically the most difficult to perform but within this exercise the skater can gain much more detailed awareness of balance point on the blade & improve confidence in the back outside edge over time. Brodie does a great job demonstrating!
