Synecdoche, NY. Just going to hire a ton of actors to pretend to be theme-park goers, employees, executives, all the rest, 24/7 https://twitter.com/MrCamW/status/1318386497221922816
I am obsessed with that movie, the weird Russian art project where it happens in real life, and the book Remainder, where a guy just pays people to exactly reenact mundane scenes from his life. I love the idea so much
I imagine that these three ideas arose independently around the same time because of our collective subconscious realization that automation had replaced many jobs, but rather than freeing us that simply meant we had to do pointless work, acting out a pantomime of capitalism
"Getting paid by a rich person to act out a simulacrum of some mundane desire, while producing absolutely nothing of value nor improving the world" really does seem to capture the state of the world right now
