why i love jolyne cujoh
a thread

before starting, this thread will contain major spoilers for stone ocean so i reccomend not continuing if you haven't finished it

jolyne starts off as a somewhat naive and emotional girl. she is thrown into a horrible situation without knowing why. she's framed for a crime, manipulated by her boyfriend, deceived by her lawyer, and sentenced to 15 years. her initial desolation is understandable
jolyne also holds a lot of resentment towards her father because of his absence in her life. again, she has no way of knowing why her father neglected and abandoned her, only that he did. she acted out as a teen and she is very hostile towards him because of this
of course, once jolyne understands that the reason why jotaro distanced himself as much as he did was to protect her and her mother, she dedicates everything she has to saving him and stopping pucci. he sacrificed so much to make sure she never got involved, yet she still did
she also started out and is shown to be someone who was easily overwhelmed and tends to panic and make bad decisions when she is under pressure, as shown when she cracks and helps romeo at the beginning and in a flashback where she is shown panicking and stealing a car as a teen
but as the story progresses we see her quickly learn to adapt to the situations she is put it, stay calm, and act accordingly. while she retains her somewhat impulsive nature at times, the actions she takes are no longer panicked and rash, but unwavering and purposeful
in the ultra security punishment ward is where we see a major turning point in jolyne's development. she decides that she will no longer allow herself to be mentally overwhelmed. she will not falter when it comes to her goals and she will continue to move forward no matter what
jolyne's most defining characteristic is her determination and resolve. no matter how dangerous the situation, how much pain she's in, how impossible something my seem, she will keep going. her desire to save her father and also stop pucci is what continues to drive her forward.
her determination can also be just as much of a flaw as it is a strength, as her desire to reach her goals regardless of what is in her way can sometimes lead to her being reckless at times. however, in many cases, that willingness to be dive head first into danger is neccessary
her strong will is something that inspires and draws others to her. her determination also extends to protecting the people she considers her friends. in the same way, her friends will also do almost anything to help her towards her goals as well.
though her way of speaking can at times be rough and she can be very rude, jolyne is, at her core, a kind-hearted person who cares about not just her friends, even strangers as well. she's very compassionate. she will go great lengths to protect her loved ones.
jolyne is smart. she's extremely quick-witted and the ways that she uses her stand to her advantage throughout the story shows that.
stone free's true strength is less in its physical power (though it's by no means weak) and more in the creative ways jolyne uses it. while it may not look like much, it is extremely powerful. while jolyne may look weaker in comparison to previous jojos, she's just as tough.
jolyne is extremely adaptable and her stand reflects this. she learns the rules of prison life and conforms to it fairly quickly, and she also learned how her stand worked by herself. just as she can easily manipulate her strings, she can easily adjust to her surroundings.
now going back to her relationship with her father, they are each other's biggest weaknesses. this is something that pucci knows exploits, allowing him to get the upper hand on them both times.
speaking of pucci, over the course of the story, i think he definitely comes to respect jolyne as his enemy. she's a major threat to him, but he still acknowledges her strength, drive, and intelligence
now i kinda just want to talk about my favorite jolyne moments. this includes the guard westwood fight, rikiel fight, mobius strip scene, and her final sacrifice. these are moments i find defining for jolyne's character and scenes that just made me feel something
the guard westwood fight is one of my favorites because you get to see jolyne fight hand-to-hand (while also using her stand). and she holds her own so well in this fight. she also takes some major damage but remains standing until the end. she's just so badass in this fight
the creatures that rikiel can control feed off people's body heat and can cause muscles and organs to fail. to combat this, jolyne uses stone free's strings and SETS HERSELF ON FIRE!! says it's nothing and continues to fight. the way i SCREAMED the first time i read this
in the c-moon fight we see jolyne's hand and leg get turned inside out, but despite this she continues to fight. however when a blow connects with her chest to turn her heart inside out, it looks grim but jolyne quickly thinks to turn her chest into a mobius strip to avoid this
what i love about this scene is that it's a move only jolyne could have pulled off. it's genuinely one of my favorite moments in jojo just because it's such an intense scene that had me holding my breath, and again, the scream i let out when i realized what she did
finally, jolyne's sacrifice. her father and friends have been killed, she's fatally wounded, and defeating pucci seems impossible. using the last of her strength, she makes sure emporio is able to get away, buying time for him by turning to face pucci one last time
of course as jolyne was barely clinging onto life, she must have known that she had no chance of defeating him in that state. but she was determined to save emporio, who would go on to defeat pucci using weather's stand, which she'd told him hold on to.
jolyne is the final jojo of the original universe. the first part ends with jonathan dying, sacrificing himself to stop dio and save erina and the final part ends with jolyne sacrificing herself to save emporio so he can stop pucci. it's very fitting, i think.
tldr: i just really love how strong, smart, determined, and just utterly badass jolyne is. i think her story wraps up the original universe perfectly. she's my favorite jojo and one of my favorite protagonists of all time. i love her so much.

i'm sorry if this thread seems messy and unorganized! i'm not the best at collecting or explaining my thoughts, and things are probably worded terribly, but i at least hope it's readable
