Went to manoa library today. I think the socialist institutions in the US are all very good. Libraries and the USPS are good. the US should become more socialist.
While the communist totalitarianism should obviously break through the modern regimes, capitalism or socialism and learn to let freedom happen. No doubt Socialism in some states has been terribly corrupted. Though we need new ways to reflect on freedom.
Freedom needs to be brought under new light. I.e. if it’s not free market, or the individualist freedom defined through reason which sets the ground for anthropocentrism, then how should it be thought in our time with a global pandemic and massive suffering?
Massive suffering caused by both modern political regimes, I would say.
Eg. for Mill freedom is understood as freely seeking ones own interests given that one does not harm others. At least this theory is inadequate, for it does not question what Support the society offers for one to seek ones own interest;
For without the basic supports of the society, eg. good healthcare system, and an environment free of discrimination, it might be impossible for one to pursue any interest at all.
So in my eyes actually the US faces some problems quite similar to a totalitarianism, surprisingly. That is, how to regulate those who have power and money. The superrich in the US are simply out of control.
In this sense, without the good basic supports of the society everyone inevitably becomes a victim of the system. The society produces fragmented humans who focus on their own interests and make their own money. People are forced to take each other as rivals 👇
Even with the abundance of social production under capitalism. And massive deaths, hunger, and poverty, and wars driven by the thirst for profit of capital happen in our time with the advanced technology.
