THREAD: There was speculation a few months back about MCF (军民融合) as a term potentially being replaced by "military-civil unity" (军民团结). I first noticed "MCU" or 军民团结 in a May 2020 article from MND. The shift in name could suggest a few different things:

1. It could mean that Xi views MCF as entering its final stage as a strategy. We've gone from "integration" to "fusion" to "unity" over the past 3 decades, so the chronology makes sense. This does not necessarily mean that MCF has been more or less successful though.

2. More likely though, we're seeing a classic case of Beijing changing/disappearing terms after they get too much attention abroad. We saw this phenomenon with Thousand Talents, Made in China 2025, and many others.

Moral of the story: keep an eye on your key Chinese terms. Changes MAY indicate a shift in narrative, but that may not always be the case. TBD on this one.
