grug say, the animosity of sun emoji apollonians towards christianity likely stems in part from the relatively modern idea of an apollo/dionysus rivalry
dionysus and his cult are often used as examples of the pre-existence of christ (or a disproof thereof for people that watched zeitgeist for the first time and had their minds blown)

there are several parallels between the myths and worship of dionysus and those of christ
the parallels relevant here are the ones found in the religious rites, for example the symbol consumption of the flesh and blood of the god in the form of bread and wine

as christianity spread to pagan rome and greece, it preserved parts of existing dionysian rites
the point grug is driving at is that if you want to be a neopagan, you’d be better off as a christian, because it actually preserved older religious rites within itself

it’s not an attempt at reconstruction of something old, it’s the old thing being handed down directly
the same can’t really be said for rites of apollo - some elements may be preserved in the sense that christianity also retains some solar rites, but for the most part it was lost as a religion
grug has observed that many sun emoji ppl are really into nietzsche, so grug surmises that some of the animosity may stem from some kind of bitterness that the “dionysian” religion lived while the “apollonian” religion died
but this is kind of a one-way beef that doesn’t seem to have ever actually existed in antiquity, and nietzsche himself seems to confuse dionysus’ association with wine to be about drunkenness and decadence instead of symbolizing a change in consciousness
there’s also the element of apparent subversion, but if anything, christianity subverted things like heterosexuality and anti-pederasty into the pagan world
anyways, ancient apollonianism involved actual religious practices meant to bind one’s soul to something higher than oneself, and not just doing comparative religion online

if you want to participate in real religious practice, christianity just seems more practical
