Okay. So.

First of all, Amy is a child when the novel begins – she’s 12, so she’s got a lot of growing to do & she makes some questionable decisions, most of which are to do with *being a child*.
& judging a child, in general, feels really harsh, especially considering just how much hate Amy gets.
More specifically, compared to the other sisters Amy tends to be defined by her flaws instead of her virtues. She’s the vain, silly, materialistic one.

But we don’t *really* call Meg the boring one, Beth the self-erasing one & Jo the one who can’t decide what she wants.
