Merrick, I'm not gonna @ u because I'm lazy and too tired to deal with basically everything at this point, but there are no contexts where a white person saying the n-word are good or do not result in an outcome that is negative or harmful to PoC.
I know you think you're in the right because you think you're not gonna get any sort of critical refutation on this, but like, the reason you can't think of a context where it's good for a white person to do that is because there absolutely are none. Period.
To be critical of language is to be aware of the harm that language can create, much like that of fascist or homophobic rhetoric, and to try to reduce that harm as much as possible, and that awareness does not bar me or anybody from being critical of language.
Taking it on a case-by-case basis isn't pragmatic when you start to see and realize that most cases it has been used, both historically and in modern times, result in racist attitudes and actions perpetuating.
"Racism is 100% dependent on context" what the fuck does that even mean? Are you saying that there are contexts where people have decided something was racist but it actually wasn't? It sure doesn't sound like you're saying racism has changed over time...
If you are saying the former, I'm gonna need a citation, because there are good reasons for why someone might call something racist (ESPECIALLY IF THAT PERSON IS A POC) when you might not actually think it is.
To sum up:
No good contexts for N-word to be said by white people.
Nor I or anybody else are anti-critical of language for believing this, in fact the opposite is true.
Case-by-case basis is ridiculous when an overwhelming majority of cases perpetuate ongoing racism.
And just to add a lil more here: Even if it wasn't overwhelming majority of cases, but a small amount of cases instead perpetuated racism, IT WOULD STILL BE BAD, because RACISM IS BAD.
You cannot simultaneously be anti-racist and support the minority of cases that perpetuate racism, the goals between the two are fundamentally different and incompatible with each other, ffs this is not hard.
I'm sorry, I just gotta add one more point while I'm thinking about it. There are more effective ways to out and expose the ridiculousness of bigoted thinking, without resorting to directly using the n-word with bigots.
The shock and surprise you might get out of right-wingers for using it, will likely only further undermine left-wing movements and values in the long run. The discourse this has caused is ultimately not productive, that much should be clear to people like Vaush and Merrick.
Also I mean to say more that saying the n-word to get a rise out of fascists has no effectiveness because of everything I've mentioned before in this thread, just want to make that clear.
