Incidentally, some have pointed out that we will probably see Roberts joining the majority more often then in the past. There are two slightly different accounts of the mechanism behind this. One is that a chief justice does not want to feel irrelevant in dissent, an outsider.
I think this is too squishy, however. The more flinty-eyed version is that Roberts will want to be able to (partly) shape and limit the holdings and reasoning of the new majority by assigning opinions, including to himself. To do that he must vote with the majority.
