For #InternationalSlothDay I urge everyone to read the following article. Sloths are amazing animals but their charm has been taken advantage of. I will always stand up against animal exploitation and for meaningful ways to promote conservation. (1/4) https://slothconservation.com/the-wildlife-selfie-problem/
Wildlife selfies just don’t do it. Even if you have well intentions, the animal in question is used to handling, or you have a lengthy caption—they do not convey the proper message. What if someone don’t speak English? What if the photo is cropped? Or taken out of context? (2/4)
They all lead to the exploitation of these animals. Sloths especially are a worst case scenario. They are famous for their slowness. This applies to almost everything. Sloths internalize stress so even if the individual looks fine it might be feeling the opposite. (3/4)
All I ask is that we use today to celebrate these animals and promote education on them. Sloths are absolutely fascinating and I have had the privilege of seeing quite a few in the wild (see photo). They deserve the popularity and it’s up to us to help them out! (4/4)
