Rowton House in Newcastle (since demolished). Lord Rowton founded a chain of these in London in the 1890s as hostels for working men (in place of the squalid lodging houses of the time). They were sometimes known as ‘Men’s Palaces’ and Newcastle’s was run by the @salvationarmyuk.
