Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself” and “love your enemies.” I often seen when the church does that publicly that unbelievers have agreed with Jesus that this is a good thing and have expressed gratitude. 2/ Ultimately, this thinking is insular and falls in line with idea that the world will hate us no matter what and if they like us, it’s only because we’re doing what they already agree with and since they are lost, none of that really matters as a Christian distinctive. But...
3/ ... that view disavows the whole concept of Christian influence because perhaps part of the larger culture’s view on right/wrong was ALREADY shaped by Christian distinctives regarding treatment of the vulnerable. A lot of historical work has been done in this area, actually.
