@MarquetteU and @PresLovell told the @BSCofMU that they were committed to continue to hire Black (and POC more generally) faculty through the Race, Ethnic, and Indigenous Studies cluster hires. Yesterday, all job searches were suspended.
@ProvostKimo has halted the HSI initiative, removing it entirely from the strategic plan.
@johnbaworowsky presented at Academic Senate yesterday regarding enrollment modelling. The models were very questionable, relying on race and ethnic factors, something that data scientists here assure us is not common practice--even for cops!
@PresLovell cancelled his lunch with students today, presumably because they are asking hard questions about the budget.
Undergrads, grad workers, non-tenure and tenure/tenure track faculty, and alumni are asking questions and getting organized. We all know there is a financial emergency happening, but we are not convinced that the administration is being entirely clear about the situation.
Come out tomorrow for the AMAZING sit in being planned. There will be free lunch and snacks! Masks are required.
Join the Organizing Committee of the Marquette Academic Workers Union. We usually meet Thursday afternoons (open to members only, no press)!
Come out to our General Meetings! The next is October 29th at 7pm (open to members only, no press).
If you are faculty, attend a @MarquetteUnited meeting!
But most importantly, no matter if you are staff, undergrad, grad, of faculty: TALK TO YOUR PEERS AND COLLEAGUES. Let them know what is happening here. Talk to your parents, to alum. We must stand together to defend our vocation and our institution--only we can do that!
You can follow @MarquetteUnion.
