Being a former member of the United States Navy’s F/A-18F Tactical Demonstration Team, flying air shows and flyovers all over the world, I’d like to take the time to educate the public on flyovers, what they mean, what they do, where the money comes from, etc etc... A THREAD https://twitter.com/BarbersChairNet/status/1318386351830564870
The primary intents of flyovers and air shows is too fold:
(1) increases the military’s recruiting program, which is important if we are to avoid a draft in the future
(2) increases the military’s community outreach program, partnering with teams/communities to do good.../2
In communities (visiting hospitals, children cancer centers, etc etc).

As for the funding: for air shows, the air show itself pays for everything from hotels, transportation, fuel etc, nothing comes from “tax-payers’ pockets.” For fly overs, there is a pot of money.../3
Set aside each fiscal year for recruitment/community outreach. The following year’s budget in those areas is influenced by the money spent in the current fiscal year. Basically, if you don’t use it, it goes away in the future. And it can’t be re-allocated to something else.../4
So, if the country would like to avoid a draft, continue to make good happen in our communities through military interaction, public outreach and support, flyovers and air shows are of vital importance. Maybe if these announcers or the public understood the intent.../5
Of flyovers and air shows and we’re informed on their importance, they wouldn’t be so blatantly ignorant. Education is everything, on anything. Please don’t speak to something you have no idea of how it works or what its intent is, especially on a national stage.../6
All it does is increase divisiveness.
