Let's look at the report.

Simple assault is down last year vs. this year. So is sexual assault. Total crimes against persons have increased 0%. https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/101520_CMR_September_%20EXTERNAL.pdf https://twitter.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1318398351176511489
Pocket picking, shoplifting, "all other larceny." All down.

Overall crimes against property down by 1%.

Robbery in the month of 9/2020 vs. 9/2019 is down 3%.
What's this mean? IDK. But if people are just gonna throw out crimes that went up, with misleading percent increases of small raw numbers, then we might as well also know that animal cruelty is down 16%.
(P.S. I deleted an earlier version of this thread to do a fact-check. It appears to me that this month they failed to specify that they're using year-to-date numbers in the right-hand columns. But it's clear in the prior reports: https://www.austintexas.gov/sites/default/files/files/091420_CMR_August_EXTERNAL.pdf)
