I love this verse in the Bible because of the obvious horse/rider metaphor that you can use to understand something really cool.
Proverbs 21:31
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but SAFETY is of the LORD.

A lot of talk in our day has been made of safety and security and we have made great sacrifices of freedom to obtain it.
As a collective, we have given up freedom.
Why?
Because we trust in our FEARFUL HEARTS that it is the right course.
And so...we follow it.
But should we?
As a collective, we have given up freedom.

Because we trust in our FEARFUL HEARTS that it is the right course.

But should we?
Every horse, at least every broken horse, has a rider.
To use our metaphor, that rider is you, or the Lord.
You are the LORD of your own horse.
So what is the horse, then?
Simple.
Your own HEART.

Animals always panic when they perceive they are being threatened.
So naturally, and this is not wrong, they go into FIGHT or FLIGHT mode.
Remember the original Proverb said:
The horse is prepared for battle...
But that same horse (heart) can have the exact opposite reaction!

In Psalm 11:1, King David seems to be talking to his own horse who has apparently been nagging him to RUN AWAY to a place of safety in the mountains.
"In the Lord put I my trust: HOW SAY YOU to my SOUL, Flee as a bird to your mountain?"
This is David's own fearful heart!
"In the Lord put I my trust: HOW SAY YOU to my SOUL, Flee as a bird to your mountain?"
This is David's own fearful heart!
We've all been there.
And felt this.
A STRONG pull from the HEART to REACT in fear and seek immediate comfort or safety in times of danger.
And so naturally...
Psalm 33:17
An horse is a VAIN THING FOR SAFETY neither shall he deliver any by his GREAT STRENGTH.
Proverbs 28:26
He that TRUSTETH IN HIS OWN HEART is a fool: but whoso walketh WISELY, he shall be delivered.
How about that?
If you trust in a heart you KNOW is prone to fight or flight mode...your soul is a fool!
Because the rider of the horse SHOULD know how to ride horses!

That is the whole point of having a HEART and a SOUL.
The soul "rides" the heart!
Knowing how to calm it down, turn it, and make it go somewhere!
Because...
Proverbs 21:1
The king's HEART is in the HAND of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Proverbs 21:1

If you're wise then this is your heart...
Psalm 112:7
He shall NOT BE AFRAID OF EVIL tidings: his heart IS FIXED, TRUSTING in the Lord.
But if you're a fool...
Proverbs 19:3
The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart FRETTETH AGAINST the Lord.
Psalm 112:7
He shall NOT BE AFRAID OF EVIL tidings: his heart IS FIXED, TRUSTING in the Lord.
But if you're a fool...
Proverbs 19:3
The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart FRETTETH AGAINST the Lord.
Your favorite bro on Twitter thinks that quoting Plato is going to help men improve themselves.
What you have here is REAL, and PRACTICAL way to become a GOOD ruler of horses.
And hearts.
Specifically the hearts of men.
Because all knowledge is ONE.

And only ONE of your THREE fractions can save you.
And when the heart truly BELIEVES in your SOUL's ability
It will feel like this...
Psalm 4:8
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, ONLY makest me dwell in SAFETY.
