Someone may need to hear this as much as I needed to. It's extremely common for trauma survivors to feel as though they are behind in life and to actually be "behind" other people in their age group. This is especially common for those who survived childhood/adolescent trauma.
The people in your age group who did not experience life altering trauma absolutely had an advantage over you, your brain was focused on survival and they were free to grow and develop. You may feel behind but it's because you were doing your best to survive.
You might still be learning how to thrive in your relationships with others. You might still be learning how to hold a steady job. You might still be learning how to best care for yourself. That's okay. Honor where you are now and know that you are doing your best.
