ALL REFERENCES MADE IN THE SKZVERSE; a LONG but important master thread made for those who don't understand the skzverse
[DISCLAIMER]:
-i am NOT skz so my theories may be inaccurate
-everything i say within this thread is just my personal take and things i gathered from other stays as well
-if you have your own theories, that's fine, you can disagree. this just what i think

-i'll make this thread as detailed as possible so please bare with me (as in i'll talk about the lyrics/choreo (and probably the sound of the song but that could change)
-do tell me if you want to make more threads like these (i do music analysis as well teehee)

[LABELS]
i'll make different labels to sort of divide the thread so that it makes sense and to break it down easily
[OBV REF]
"obv ref" is for obvious references. when an object/location in the map is obviously the same as one in the mv

now in this thread, i'll be explaining the different times/situations where mvs, lyrics, etc. are referencing each other. i'll also be explaining my understandings of what some things in the skzverse signify
you'll see what i mean as you go through the thread

to understand first, i'll break down the most important piece of the skzverse:
the map for a "broken compass"
(map was made by skz and posted on twitter during )
everything skz has done within the skzverse almost ALWAYS leads up to this map. it plays a big role on the skzverse +

because majority of the things happening within mvs revolve around it
think of it as your guide. if you ever make theories on the skzverse, ALWAYS look back at the map. the meaning of each object within the map can change within what kind of theory you are thinking of

okay. now that i cleared that up.
[HELLEVATOR]
hellevator is a song about the difficulties of struggling with problems and the way you feel about it
hellevator, obviously being the start of skz's journey, is also the first part we in the map

within the whole mv, the camera seems to move around jisung really often. this means he's the protagonist of this mv, also because he's the first to enter the elevator
within the whole mv, the camera seems to move around jisung really often. this means he's the protagonist of this mv, also because he's the first to enter the elevator
the mv story is much like the song. we see jisung having his own problems (not explicitly said but implied). we see him destroying the place because it took a toll on him.
he's alone and by himself but when he destroys the place and leaves (through elevator), +

he pauses and looks around to this world he's never been in, somewhat hesitant. then we see him running freely. almost as if he's in a hurry as well, like he's been looking for this all this time
he also doesn't push the others away and allows chan's arm around him

[NOTE 2]
okay but this note!! i never noticed til i slowed it down (i watch mvs in a slower time to sort of understand everything that goes on and to not miss details)
the mv's main colors seem to be a lavender kind of color. really soft shades of purple.

the mv's main colors seem to be a lavender kind of color. really soft shades of purple.
its colors then changes when the chorus hits. the colors main focus then becomes RED and GREY
this is very important because of the 2 MOONS in the skzverse. i'll explain more about the moons later but we see skz change clothing after the color changes. much like BACK DOOR

[NOTE 3]
the glass bottle from just now, it seems like it contains some flowers in a yellowish-orange kind of color. this may be important for later so keep the yellowish-orange flowers in mind

[NOTE 4]
this is kind of a continuation to the bottle (there's another bottle but with flames on it), but the flames to the book could either be from jisung or from someone else
according to history, it's be a known thing that the government/authorities have burnt books in +

order for no one else to gain knowledge. they burn books because those people who burnt them are scared of being overthrown because if the people don't know anything, no one would know how to overthrow you

[I AM NOT]
(i'll be talking about the trailer before d9 itself)
i am NOT is an album in which skz go through the difficulties and hardships of having an identity crisis; finding out they are not themselves

[NOTE 1]
in the beginning scene, we see a building that says "fake", obviously pointing out that this world isn't real
in another scene with felix, we see a building with the words "cloak" - cloak can mean 2 things:
-to hide oneself
-a sort of fabric/cloth

-a sort of fabric/cloth
let's say we were to take the words on that building to apply and describe the world/situation skz is in right now:
-the world is indeed fake. nothing is real
-the people living within the system is telling others to cloak themselves and hide +

in this case, to hide and turn a blind eye to the glitches within this system/world they are in
[NOTE 2]
i'll talk about this first even tho it happens later one. but jisung, this is kinda like a metaphor. we see jisung struggling to see past the light. we can apply that here +

by saying that jisung is blinded by the rules and laws of this system. he tries to see past the light but it's no use so he then faces the back, just like the other people in the room. this explains the relationship skz has with this system:
they they want to get out of the system they're in but can't because they don't realize why they feel this way (yet because they show them getting out during d9 mv)
think of the intro as the "world building". it introduces you to skz's background and "life" so far

we are then introduced to jeongin. he is the only one in which a crowd/other people have never been in. he is also one of the only ones not completing a task (felix and chan are also not doing a task)

[NOTE 5]
we see seungmin doing his task. he's painting out some sort of statue(?) or something like that. this might be me but it looks like the statue is in suffering. it looks like that feeling where you have to hold in the pain

[NOTE 6]
felix seems to be on the rooftop by himself. we see him struggling to find his rhythm and movement as he dances. it's very stiff and you can see he can't FEEL the movement
further implying that this system doesn't allow him to be himself

[DISTRICT 9]
district 9 is a song about about going against society's rules and basically rebel while also discovering who exactly you are
d9, despite being skz's second song, is still a part of skz's first journey. it can be grouped together with hellevator +

also because the map stated so. we see hellevator and d9 taking place within the same venue in the map so they could both be skz's start line
[OBV REFERENCE]
[OBV REFERENCE]
the only thing i have to say about these references is that they are really easy to spot
nothing much to say about it besides the fact that the map gets pretty confusing later on because you don't know what some things will mean/symbolize

[NOTE 1]
in the intro, we hear morse code which translates to:
"S.O.S.S.O.S.M.A.Y"
we know what S.O.S means; it's a signal of help. but what exactly is "M.A.Y"? unfortunately, i couldn't find the answer to that but i thought about it

we know what S.O.S means; it's a signal of help. but what exactly is "M.A.Y"? unfortunately, i couldn't find the answer to that but i thought about it
if we listen closely to the intro, it sounds as if the signalling of the morse code got interrupted by that alarm sound
because there's drones in the mv + map, what if the morse code was being signalled through that drone?
because there's drones in the mv + map, what if the morse code was being signalled through that drone?
it would make sense because the drone fell to the ground, meaning, the drone would actually be signalling "M.A.Y.D.A.Y", (mayday) another sign of distress call, instead of "M.A.Y", but because it crashed, it couldn't complete its signal/action
[NOTE 2]
the lights is something that should be taken note about. i have a gut feeling about the lights and i feel like they'll be important later on in the story
(it probably is but idk because i forgot what i analyzed and observed in the theory thread i made long ago)
