A “short” story of how I randomly got into tech, software, and cloud computing ☁️👇 [Thread 🧵]
When I was 6 someone (likely my grandfather) convinced me that I was skilled in math and therefore I should work in a bank 🏦 🤷🏻‍♂️
So I studied to become an accountant in high school, while graduating at music school too 🎷 I was mistakenly assigned to the programming specialization, where we learned Visual Basic and SQL 🤓 I hated building accounting reports, but taught myself how to build simple games 👌
University was never in my radar, my family just couldn’t afford it 💰 but I got a great scholarship in my hometown’s university and convinced my parents it was worth a shot, so I started a computer science bachelor at @UniboMagazine while completing my music diploma 🎷
I managed to graduate while studying web development on my own (PHP and MySQL), and then randomly found out about “Sound and Music Engineering”, a very fascinating master degree in Como at @polimi that combined both software engineering and music ❤️
I was lucky enough to get another great scholarship that allowed me to continue studying basically for free, so I moved to Como in 2011 after finding my first (remote) part-time job as web developer 🕷
While studying in Como, in 2013 I randomly met @stefanobellasio and @jibbolo who were about to get started with @cloudacademy and offered me a very exciting job 🎉 This is when I started learning about web development at scale and the cloud ☁️
During those startup years I was very inspired by @simon, @jeffbarr, @danilop, @IanMmmm and many others who shared their stories and knowledge in DevRel, so I decided to join @awscloud in 2018 🚀
I love working hard and learning new things every day from my peers! but there is also a lot of “randomly” and “luckily” in this thread 🍀 so thank you all for providing some of that randomness and luck 🙏
