Paper tweet y’all: this one is Taren Ong’s thesis magnum opus In  @NatureComms we show coincidence detection between mitogens and meningeal ECM molecularly controls ciliogenesis & Sonic hedgehog response via Ras and Siah2 E3 ligase  #Science  #cellbiology url: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19063-7
While most of our papers have multiple 1st authors, this one is a herculean effort by the 1st grad student in the lab. High impact papers take a ton of high-quality data and Taren did nearly all the heavy lifting & revisions during COVID to show this new ciliogenesis mechanism
Niraj Trivedi  @xlred did some of the early work on this project. Besides showing that cilia retraction spurs germinal zone exit using the dark art of Cep170 over-expression, he also showed that coculturing neuronal progenitors with meningeal fibroblasts maintained primary cilia
As with any great story there’s always amazing collaborators.  Sharon Frase and Randall Wakefield in our electron microscopy core facility helped move my lab into our first FIB-SEM foray.  EM was essential to definitively show differentiations effect on ciliogenesis.
