So I was just yelled at for wearing a mask.

Not... for NOT wearing one. For wearing one.

(short thread of wtf-ery)
My town has had a bit of a spike in cases recently and therefore has issued a new directive that tells us to wear masks even in particularly crowded outdoor spaces.

So I figured I may as well wear my mask on my walk to the grocery store, which is about a 7-minute walk.
I might not have usually done that, maybe, but I& #39;ve been feeling a little bit sniffly for the past few days (no fever, no other covid symptoms, but you never know, right?). So I figured there& #39;d be literally NO HARM in me wearing my mask.
About 4 minutes into my walk, a woman, on her way to a car in which children are waiting, walks up to me, hands raised in outrage, and yells & #39;ON THE STREET! MAY AS WELL WEAR IT TO BED!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE!?& #39;

I was so stunned that I just stood there.
In retrospect I wish I would have said something like & #39;I& #39;m a bit sick today, would you like me to cough on you? Or on your children, perhaps?& #39;.

Of course I did not say that. I just stood there. In shock. Because she was... quite loud.
Now. Here& #39;s what I don& #39;t get about this whole situation. Even if there WASN& #39;T a pandemic. Even if masks had never become the apparently divisive issue they are. What is actually... YOUR problem with ME wearing one? How does that affect... YOU ... in ANY way!?
This woman felt that it was a good use of her time and energy to loudly yell at a complete stranger. I.. I hate being yelled at. My immediate instinctual reaction to that is ALWAYS tears, no matter the situation.

So I cried all the way to the grocery store. Like an idiot.
I& #39;m over it now, but I am still so... confused. Like, what was actually the point, lady?? Do you regularly go up to people and randomly yell at them for what they may or may not be wearing!? W H Y. What is actually your damage? Seriously.

Ugh. /end thread
