A big factor in opposition to the Cork flood scheme rests on the extent of public involvement in the development of the plans. We spoke to experts who expressed concern that detailed public participation around flooding and climate-related issues is often lacking in Ireland.

The OPW-led project team told us that it is satisfied the consultation process went above & beyond statutory requirements. It said that it will not be recommending any alternative "now or in the future” to its preferred option that centre on the use of embankments & flood walls.
