I know emotions are high after an attack but targeting the rare infrastructure monitoring hate against Muslims in France is probably one of the worst ways one can combat radicalisation.
. @CCIF has won legal victories before French + Eu courts for unfair dismissal due to headscarf and is France's leading organisation on combatting anti-Muslim hate.
The rhetoric by media personalities and politicians in France is especially worrying atm as the terms Muslim, islamist, radicalist, jihad are being swapped around like candies with little or no challenge from moderators.
Then you have the professional islamophobes throwing around terms such as "judicial jihad" and "enemy of the republic" to describe NGOs like the CCIF. Again, post-attack it seems anything goes when targeting the Muslim community in France.
The most dangerous aspect is the lack of nuance. In the example of Bush’s “you’re either with us, or against us” speech when launching the unending War on Terror, France’s debate pits ‘defending the French Muslim community from hate’ against ‘being for the freedom of speech.’
This goes without saying but no Muslim should be asked to prove their attachment to the Republic by condemning the awful decapitation of a fellow human being. It goes without saying.
All French Muslims – especially the visible ones – I've spoken to worried about the backlash they are now facing for an act that had nothing to do with them. Let's not make it worse by removing the few NGOs combatting that hate and discrimination. #SoutienCCIF #Soutienbarakacity
I thought this thread was done but we now have the Minister of the Interior talking about how shocked he is to see halal food in supermarkets and criticises shops that sell 'communitarianist clothes' i.e. headscarves? https://twitter.com/BFMTV/status/1318656054721470465?s=20
I'm waiting for him to mention burkinis and then we will really have hit all the popular talking points.
