I don’t normally share private WhatsApp chats. But we must expose the anti-vaxxer disinformation being peddled within the black community about vaccines. It is risking lives and leading to views like these. (Anonymised to protect the person who sent them to me) 
This was in response to last week’s drive to get more ethnic minorities to volunteer for vaccine trials. It is deeply worrying that we are under-represented. Only 0.4% of people on the National Vaccine Register are black. We need many more as I wrote in my article last week
A vaccine may be the only way to get us out of this pandemic - it is critical tests are representative of the population otherwise it may not work as well for under-represented groups. A result which would be devastating due to misinformation within our own communities.
I’m taking part in vaccine trials myself and have asked every MP to spread the word. At a time when extreme political fringes are applying divisive, racial messaging to COVID-19, elected representatives and local leaders of all backgrounds need to urge more people to take part
The government has made it simple to sign up. Please spread the word – especially to those people you know from an ethnic minority background.
