To celebrate Shirou day properly, I'm making a thread of my favorite Emiya Shirou moments, based on ALL of Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, so spoilers will follow.
Starting with the Fate route: Shirou rejects the Holy Grail, this is one of the most powerful moments in Fate looking back at it now, despite how traumatized he is and how terrible that incident was, Shirou decided that using the Grail's power to change the past is a mistake
The amount of strength it took to reject that wish is immense, and the maturity of Shirou's answer as to why he shouldn't is why I respect him so much, he looks beyond just the surface level of his actions. Not to mention how it led Saber to her own answer as well.
Another one from the Fate route, when Shirou mentally repels Angra, something that most humans would never be able to do, it is the curse that killed Kiritsugu, and that fact alone gives Shirou the mental willpower to overcome it.
Moving on to Unlimited Blade Works: Shirou's initial answer to Archer. While not as amazing as his actual answer later on, I always loved how Shirou immediately rejects Archer, completely unhinged by everything that Archer said, not anyone can say this to their broken future self
Now the ACTUAL answer from Shirou, a strong contender for my favorite moment in all of Fate and maybe even more than that. One of the most inspiring answers to a conflict I have ever witnessed in fiction, it resonated with me a lot because I've always believed that
"The means justify the ends" is the proper way of thinking when you approach anything. He had every reason to give up here, his future was doomed, his ideals were fake, and his way of doing things was hypocritical. But so what? Saving people is still an admirable thing to do.
Actions HAVE meaning beyond just the end result. I always felt like "the end justifies the means" was such an unfair rule of life, but had no argument against it, and this moment finally gave me the answer I needed.
The Anime did this scene so much justice, and it's pretty much my favorite Anime scene ever. Bless Ufotable and Aimer for this scene.
UBW is still not done, there is no way I'm going to forget the most iconic Shirou moment, the moment that this whole day is a reference to, and honestly, I don't really have much to say besides.....

PEAK FICTION!
Heaven's Feel, my favorite route, it contains many amazing Shirou moments, like when he chose to protect Sakura, and then later on when he refused to kill her even knowing the damage she is causing, both some of Shirou's most human moments.
The latter moment in particular stood out to me, the impact this moment has if you've experienced both the Fate and UBW routes before is huge, you've seen just how much Shirou can stay true to his ideals despite everything against him, and here we see him give them up.
It's NOT a moment of weakness, an insane amount of strength is required to reject that which you've lived all your life for up until now, for the thing that you care about the most. And it's probably the healthiest conclusion for Shirou as a person, and what Kiritsugu would want.
There is no way we can talk about HF Shirou and not bring up the LEGENDARY moment that is 9LBW, this moment encapsulates Shirou's progress from Fate all the way until here, it is the moment that shows how far he's come, a moment that pays off all your investment in him.
And beyond that, it's FUCKING HYPE AS SHIT, possibly the most hyped I've ever been watching/reading anything. It's a moment that was built up constantly throughout the second act of HF. And the movie does it so much justice.
Now before continuing with the "mainline" of HF, let's talk about the 2 most well known bad endings of F/SN, Mind of Steel and Sparks Liner High.
Mind of Steel is such an ominous ending for Shirou, but I love it because it shows that he COULD have not chosen Sakura. This is the closest Shirou gets to being like Kiritsugu. Despite winning the HGW, it is a bad ending because it is not an answer to Shirou, he became a machine
As for Sparks Liner High, this is arguably the most badass alternative end ever, it once again shows how far Shirou has come, and it pays off his relationship with Saber up to that point. It is Shirou pushing himself beyond all limits to take on the person he respects the most.
I won't post the CG for this one since it might accidentally spoil someone, but the resolution to this in the mainline HF is even more emotional, and it really pays off the relationship between Shirou and Saber, I can't imagine how hard it must've been for him to do what he did.
The climax for Shirou's HF arc is here, he finally truly becomes Sakura's hero in this moment, and I could not love Shirou any more than I loved him here.
The NORMAL END of HF is such a sad moment for Shirou, but I love it nonetheless, it shows just how much he broke himself throughout this route, there had to be consequences, but I love how Shirou accepted it fully.
Last but not least, the most epic moment in all of Fate, the clash between two sides of the same coin, Emiya Shirou and Kotomine Kirei, this is the payoff for their whole relationship and dynamic up until this point. It highlights what makes each of them so amazing.

To finish off this thread, the icing of the cake that is Emiya Shirou's awesomeness, is this moment from Hollow Ataraxia where he finally crosses that bridge and once again shows why he was able to beat all of his opponents, his unwavering will and resolve.
