One thing I heard yesterday is that GM had asked for £15m a month on the furlough/self employment side. Apparently govt view is that this in reality means £90m, costed over six months. Which does rather suggest we wouldn’t be coming out of T3 any time soon
Worth adding that there’s a sense, certainly on the feedback from readers (and people I know, and me) that one of the worst things about the current situation is there being no end to it. We’ve been under measures since the end of July - the lack of an end is quite traumatic
Get the general sense (and this is a huge generalisation obviously) that there’s a significant appetite for a circuit break - and that a lot of that comes from the belief that that would be defined and finite.
Also an interesting view from a v senior dr in a GM hospital yesterday, who said yes, the hospitals are v busy, but that their view - and that of other drs they’d spoken to - was ‘if you’re going to have a bath, have a deep one; if you’re going to lock down, lock down properly’
