Can we stop saying “Being Black is <insert something bad>”

...and start saying “unjust systems harm Black people by <insert injustice(s)>” please?

There is nothing inherently wrong with us. Place responsibility where it belongs: on systems of oppression, not on oppressed people
And I said *we* because I’m still learning to break the habit myself.

It’s subtle, but it communicates a great deal to non-Black folks and Black folks alike.

I will no longer subconsciously internalize the idea that Black is broken. It is not.
Being Black isn’t exhausting. Oppression is exhausting.

Being Black in America isn’t deadly. America is deadly for Black people.

Being Black isn’t dangerous.
Anti-Blackness is dangerous.

The difference matters.

Being Black is lit. Nothing less.
