Prison affects so many people, not just those who are incarceration. It also affects the families - it’s physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually draining for the families who support a loved one incarcerated.

They deal with more stress having to deal with everyday life AND anything their loved one needs (packages, phone calls, letter writing, etc).
The families loose friends/family members simply because they stand by their loved one.

The person who was sentenced isn’t the only one doing time. The whole family (parent, spouse, children, etc) are also serving time with them - placing their lives on a hold until their loved one is released.
