As a very serious energy policy analyst, I& #39;m contractually obligated to have a take on the @hausfath & @atrembath piece. I& #39;m with @RyanMKellogg: fracking enables a *lot* of oil production but the conversation seems to always focus on gas. What about oil? https://www.politico.com/news/agenda/2020/10/19/could-fracking-help-the-climate-429929">https://www.politico.com/news/agen...
emissions have to eventually go to zero, then below zero, the end
Does natural gas electricity have lower emissions than coal, even on a life cycle basis? In almost all cases, yes, and that& #39;s good. Still, see prior twete.
finally, just to make sure this thread pleases no one-- the arguments that Zeke and Alex make in the piece, individually, are...not wrong. It& #39;s the oil bit plus the gas infrastructure lock-in pieces that require some more discussion.
would like to read/write a paper on the GHG implications of returning to a crude export ban, and winding down refined oil product exports, of which, there are a lot
We modeled a global cap on crude emissions and explored how carbon accounting methods would affect production and consumption for each country in this piece: https://kilthub.cmu.edu/articles/Effect_of_Crude_Oil_Carbon_Accounting_Decisions_on_Meeting_Global_Climate_Budgets/5270830">https://kilthub.cmu.edu/articles/...
