As of close of business Fri., Oct. 16, US Elections Project estimated 28.4+ million voters had cast ballots prior to Election Day. That's roughly 20% of the total ballots in the 2016 Presidential Election.

And we still have 15 more days of early voting!

Across the nation, election officials, academics, and pundits are projecting that it’s possible the total turnout from the 2016 Presidential Election may be exceeded this year just during the early voting period. Not even accounting for Election Day voting.

Experts project US voters may cast up to 150 million presidential ballots in 2020, based on 2013 midterm turnout. If true, that would exceed the 139 million ballots cast in the 2016 Presidential Election, likely an increase of about 9% over 2016 totals.

If those projections are true, that means national turnout could reach its highest mark in more than a century, going back to the 1908 Presidential Election when 65% of eligible voters cast ballots.
