So why do ppl get hooked on right-wing media? Yes ofc we all seek media that confirms our worldview, but that's only half the story. An important element of how rw media works is feeding the viewers with an inflated sense of pride.

Showering one with praise and then tell them everyone else (MSM) is lying to them is one of the most basic form of manipulation. When RW media isn't focusing on grievances of "how you're wronged by the left today", it spends the rest of its airtime to inflate their viewers' pride

Patriotism, "real america", "true christian values", etc. So when the grievance programming comes on, it's framed with incendiary language and an attack on their pride. And when someone feels their pride being chipped away, they'll react instinctually and fiercely to protect it.

Which is why it isn't enough to combat RW media lies with truth when approaching a RW media consumer. They've been conditioned for yrs to use whataboutism, cherrypicking, motivated reasoning etc they learned from RW media to get the conclusion they want. but more importantly…

You're only providing them with facts but not pride and validation. So u have to butter them up a little, give them some validation about the things they feel pride in their cultural identity. Or at the very least, show that u understand and respect the things they hold dear.

Most ppl aren't born into watching RW media, they gradually switch to it. As they feel abandoned by the dominant culture, they further isolate themselves into the RW media silo.

For older generation it's primarily religious, for younger ones it's white-centrism and patriarchy.
