The General’s Hi-Fi, a Thread:
On the bottom, the foundation of every Hi-Fi stack, is my Amplifier. It’s a Sony STR-DN1080. Its served under my command since 2018. As soon as I started getting into Audio stuff I knew I needed one. It’s good but It’s next up on my list to replace. More of a home theater piece.
Next is the first piece I got, my Nakamichi CR-1A tape deck. This work horse has performed admirably since I picked it up back in the summer of 2018. At 32 years old, it still sounds great and functions perfectly. It’s black and gold exterior with neon green lights is a gr8 look.
Next, and the most recent addition, is my minidisc player. It’s another sony, the MDS-302. It’s really a beauty. Mini disc was an underrated format. It’s combination of cassette functionality and clear digital audio makes it a personal favorite of mine. Need to pick up more discs
Topping off my stack is my vintage Technics CD player. This 38 year old gem was a steal at 11 dollars (as opposed to the 800 it cost when it came out. It takes one disc at a time on this beautiful caddy like tray. All one could want in a CD player, a proper Hi-Fi piece.
Next door is my AudioTechnica (Technics) AT-LP120XUSB turn table. Also a recent addition, it replaced an old Sony turntable I fixed myself. The sound quality is great and the dust cover really makes a world of difference. I want to replace it eventually with something a bit older
Cranking out the tunes are a pair of Sony standing speakers. Crazy loud and beautifully clear. Can’t believe I used to think my pair of bookshelf speakers were the cats pajamas.
Last, but certainly not least, is my Sony sub woofer. This guy packs a serious punch, kicking out mega bass. Totally cool, no Hi-Fi system is complete without one.
Look, if you’re listening to music over headphones or a 5 dollar Bluetooth speaker, you’re doing it wrong. Set aside part of 6 months pay and get yourself a system. It’s worth the investment and you too can enjoy music in the best way possible. (END)
