Top 10 favourite fish thread
(In no particular order)
1: Sand Tiger Shark, a fish that really is the definition of "shark". Large, imposing, but undoubtedly beautiful. It's got a mouth full of wickedly huge teeth that I think looks awesome. Despite this, they're non-aggressive. Some of them come in gold!
2: Barreleye
A truly astounding fish. It has a transparent head, with a brain and two large glowing green eyes inside, allowing it to have unmatched senses of vision. It's like a built in helmet. They're like nothing else on this planet.
3: Frilled Shark
A true relic of the past, the Frilled Shark dates back to prehistoric times. It's a very rarely found fish, owing to the fact it lives so deep that it can only survive a few days at "normal" depths. It has rows of teeth neatly arranged into batteries.
4: Snakehead
A pretty invasive type of fish which can make its way across land with ease to find new places to breed in. It comes in such beautiful ornamental colours...wow.
5: Salmon
A pretty unconventional choice, and it's not for the taste (I don't like any seafood at all.), but rather the downright draconic look that they take, especially during spawning season. The males get truly monstrous, but they don't live for very long after transforming.
6: Piranha
I've always liked these little guys, there's something fascinating about their brutality. Their habit of going into a frenzy and chomping prey into a mere skeleton is so savage.. and their silvery colours are very attractive. I like seeing these in person at aquariums.
7: Gigantura
This is a pretty obscure one... it's also known as a Telescope Fish, because it has colossal lenses for eyes with outstanding vision. It has a very frightening visage, like some sort of monster!
8: Coelocanth
How could I not? It's a wonder of nature. A fish thought to have been extinct since the dinosaur era, but here it is, almost unchanged since 150,000,000 years ago. A truly beautiful blue giant of the deep, with a nice set of jaws and emerald eyes.
9: Mudskipper
Outstanding. A fish outfitted for life on the land, it can leap to incredible heights and dig complex underground burrows, which the father diligently brings mouthfuls of air to inside, so his young can breathe. And they love fighting eachother in fierce showdowns.
And finally....

10: Black Devil
A type of Anglerfish, this fish is just perfect. Its transparent glass teeth, glowing green lures and shapeless body make it one of the most visually striking animals on this planet in my eyes. They completely absorb their partner while mating.
Those are my absolute faves, but why not do a few more extras that I love? I hope someone out their finds this interesting, haha. Maybe even learns something.
Lancetfish- a true dragon! With such a striking look, I'd feel honoured to have seen one. They're also very, very fast thanks to that sail.
Sarcastic Fringehead- I'll be honest, the name is too ridiculous for me. But these grumpy tunnel dwellers have such amazing, flamboyant jaws that they've won me over. They're EXTREMELY territorial!
Goliath Tigerfish- Goliath. Freaking. Tiger. Fish. I feel like I don't need to explain why I like this one. It's like a dinosaur in a fish's body. You ABSOLUTELY do not want a bite from this monster.
Black Dragonfish- One of the most frightening animals I can think of. A glowing, fanged serpentine fish- and when it's born, it has eyes on stalks like a snail (as seen in the last picture) which it loses in favour of massive jaws.
Goliath Grouper- This bad boy grows to the size. OF. A. CAR!!!!!! It's surprisingly gentle, but the size is so dang intimidating. A fish that really makes you shut up and watch in awe as it swims around undersea caves and reefs. It's a big fan of living in sunken ships.
Loosejaw- Downright vampiric looking, it has a strange set of jaws with NO SKIN OR MUSCLE on them, instead owning a bone hinge that lets it snap up prey without any drag from the water. Its cheeks glow!
Sleeper Shark- a somewhat eerie looking shark from the very bottom of the sea, which can live for HUNDREDS of years. I'm a big fan of its monochromatic colours. The white eyes and mouth are everything.....
Sea Robin/ Sea Goblin/ Tripod Fish- (images in order of name) Three different fish, but all of them have fins that act as legs, letting them crawl along the ocean bed!
And to finish off for now, how can I not mention the HAGFISH? It has no jaws. It generates infinite slime. It can tie itself into knots and it lives inside dead whales. It's just so delightfully disgusting and I'm so happy it lives on the same planet as I do.
