You have to understand why pointing out Republican lies and hypocrisy doesn't have the effect on Republicans that you'd expect it to have on reasonable people, and why it even usually has the opposite effect.

1/9
First, it's not like Republicans don't know the lies are lies. They usually do know. Even when they don't know, they just don't care.

Republicans--both elects and voters--don't care about "truth" or "reality," "honesty" or "ethics." They care only about winning.

When you point out their lies, it makes them gleeful, similar to the "Ha ha! Made you look!" reaction of a 10-year-old practical joker. If you're angry or frustrated or even saddened at their lies, they feel powerful. They've made you angry or frustrated or sad.

3/9
See, the point isn't to accomplish anything. The point is to hurt the people they don't like, and that means lubruls and Democrats, black people, elites, immigrants, and so on.

A lie that hurts you is a dagger, a gunshot blast. That makes it a weapon, not a moral failing.

Take Merrick Garland vs Amy Barrett as an example of hypocrisy. Republicans blocked Garland with the ridiculous idea that a president in his last year shouldn't get to appoint a SCOTUS Justice. We all knew that was bullshit. Even Republicans knew it.

5/9
They didn't advance that argument because it obeyed any principle, or even because they believed it. They used it, because it gave them a talking point to endlessly repeat and to drown out all objections to their heinous acts.

They dropped it immediately after.

6/9
Pointing out their hypocrisy in reversing themselves now as regards RBG's replacement just A) shows how angry you are (which makes them feel joyful and powerful), and B) reminds them that their lies work. They always get their way. Having no moral standards works.

7/9
This is why arguing with Republicans has no effect. Highlighting lies and hypocrisy doesn't slow them down. It encourages them, because it clearly shows precisely what works to achieve their ends.

The only practical response is to vote the fascists out of government.

8/9
Then to indict them.

Then to change our culture, so fascism is no longer acceptable, or even legal.

Germany did that after WW2. It's not about arguing with fascists. It's about defending democracy along with those (even never-Trumpers) with whom we disagree on policy.

PS. With minor adjustments to the above, you can easily understand why arguing about climate change, gun deaths, economic policy--or anything else--doesn't work. They don't care about "facts". They want only to 1) win and 2) hurt =you=.
PPS. That also explains their reactions to rational arguments regarding things like masks and COVID. They don't care. You're upset about it, and that makes them happy. They're hurting other people, that makes them happier. That makes them think they're winning. That's all.
