We were relieved to see funding approved for #KellysBrook shared path! Strong statement for the rights of ppl marginalized by age, ability, or income, and for our commitment to active transportation, inclusion, accessibility, and responding to the climate crisis. A thread~
The @CityofStJohns has many beautiful trails for hiking and running but scant infrastructure for safe off-road cycling, even less that is wheelchair accessible, or stroller friendly. It is notoriously difficult to get around the city if not driving a car. #ChallengeCarCulture
The first phase of the Bike Master Plan is the Kelly’s Brook Trail, which will convert the walking trail into a shared path, allowing people using bicycles, wheelchairs, skateboards, strollers, and all means of active transportation to use the trail safely. #YYT #accessibility
The trail extends throughout the city, from Rennie’s River all the way to Mundy Pond, passing near numerous residential areas and employment centres and will be used for accessible, active commuting as well as recreation. #ChallengeCarCulture
Get to know the #KellysBrook trail better by taking a tour with Elizabeth Yeoman @sidewalkcontact - Imagine being able to traverse from Kings Bridge Road to Columbus Drive this way!

Developing the #KellysBrook trail will be a significant contribution to making our city more active, inclusive, accessible, and sustainable, all of which are goals of the @CityofStJohns' strategic plan.
Shout out to @mmburton, @ianfroude, @HopeJ709, and @Sheilagholeary, for their dedication to this project and efforts to make it happen. And to the @CityofStJohns and all levels of government for dedicating funding!
#ChallengeCarCulture
We held an online forum in July with councilors about this project, before a vote about whether to delay funding indefinitely. Council later approved a motion by @ianfroude to delay that delay until word on other levels of funding came through. Hooray!
Check out the forum here:

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this happen and to the councilors who squeezed it into a busy day! #ChallengeCarCulture #Accessibility #YYT
