Key questions to consider for effective #SciComm

What do you want to say?
How do you want to say it?
Who is your audience?
Why should they care?
Do you have under 5k followers? I advise you to use at least one relevant hashtag in every tweet.

Don’t stop there. You need to go and engage/follow other people who are using the same hashtags.

Why? Social media is meant to be social! Don’t be afraid to connect with people. 🙂
Honestly, don’t obsess over follower counts.

Focus on your message so that you do t lose your voice and authenticity.

Followers come and go. Don’t let that metric dictate your content.
If you’re new to the platform/tweeting feels weird, try to think of your tweets as:

-broadcasting ideas
-conversation starters
-tools to educate

Sometimes I would imagine myself giving a lecture.

-What are the key points?
-What can my audience take/apply to their activities?
If it’d be helpful, you’re welcome to imagine I’m your audience.

-I’m a life long learner. What can you teach me?
-I want to know about your publications, efforts and achievements. Share them, so that I can celebrate with you.
Don’t be afraid to repackage your ideas either. A majority of the advice provided in this thread has been stated elsewhere.

What’s the difference between what I said previously and what I’m saying here?

This thread is concise and direct. It’s a unique mix of multiple ideas.
