why Katy Perry didn’t deserve the hate for Bon Appétit; a thread
she first revealed about Bon Appétit at the Grammys 2017 red carpet. she said that it was a “pretty sexual song with a lot of emotions”

you can tell she’s very excited about this song. 🍒
recently in an interview, she revealed that 2017 was the first time ever in her life that she was on meds. that was the lowest point in her life.

she felt ashamed that she was the same person who wrote songs about empowerment.

full video:
irrelevant to the song itself but when she cut her hair, that’s when it became really chaotic

everyone started pointing out everything she ever did wrong. there were viral hate tweets every single week. you just couldn’t escape it. it was mentally torturing even for fans
they said they’ve been wanting to try this hairstyle on katy for so long especially considering how she is always changing her hair.

this was also after it was announced that she broke up with orlando
couple days later, katy teased a Bon Appétit snippet. we can hear that this is the solo version.
fans claimed to hear Ariana Grande on the snippet when that wasn’t the case at all.
it’s the same as this. you can’t hear Migos on the last chorus. clearly they weren’t considered for the collab at the point.
fans and news sources were so quick to jump on the collab theories when it never even existed
they set themselves up for disappointment only to drag katy later. she herself had to speak up about this :/
“the song is too sexual” katy started out her career like this. literally a third of her discography is sex & innuendos. this wasn’t anything new for her

pre-2017 examples:
she confirmed on her livestream that Bon Appétit is a song about sexual liberation & sexual empowerment. 🍒

so many songs like this have been topping the charts before & after this song, yet she was hated for being “too sexual”
people (including her old pal Ruby Rose) were quick to call her “fake woke” for Chained to the Rhythm & said celebrators should not be involved in politics.

but yet canceled her for not sticking to her “purposeful pop” & releasing ONE song that was familiar to her past work.
Migos had a hit single “Bad and Boujee” that went #1 on various charts, so their label Capitol supposedly forced them together on a single.

It was meant to bring more exposure to Katy’s soon-to-be 2nd single “Bon Appétit” 🍒
she made an appearance on a talk show to promote her single

but her feeling nervous caught everyone’s eyes. people starting saying she was on coke or meth on top of other horrible things

(note that she was signaling them to cut ✂️ out that scene which they never did)
this single was obviously boycotted. Katy looked upset (possibly crying, she denied this however) because she had been waiting to hear the song on the radio as soon as it was released but they never played it. 💔
the music video came out & she was massively ridiculed for no reason.

everyone called it a disgusting video & dragged her for themes of cannibalism
she was called out for racism & cultural appropriation on the video as well.

-french/dutch braids aren’t cornrows & she has acknowledged + apologized for wearing them once in 2014
-the chefs in the background clearly consist of white people as well (how was this even racist?)
SNL performance had VIRAL hate tweets, ig/fb posts, & youtube videos left & right. it was unbearable to watch :(

first of all she’s never been a good dancer. secondly, she was actually going through a lot on the inside. she was literally on medication
fake news about “drag queens being removed” from the SNL performance made her lose so many fans.

again a lot of hate tweets about it. no one even waited to see if it was a reliable source or anything.
it’s unclear whether katy felt upset afterwards but she was seen with a 🚬 at the SNL after party.

take this with a grain of salt but she first started 🚬 in 2010 when she was sressed about marriage
Katy suffered all their backlash & consequences while the Migos walked away free.

she later apologized for this considering that 🚨she never did a background check🚨on one of the member’s problematic statements (transphobia)

👆on the interview above, katy called out the media for only attacking female artists but not the male artists that have also collabed with the group.

artists like Iggy Azalea were attacked for old tweets while giving a pass to Quavo👇
the song was later turned into a promotional single & wasn’t listed by her label as the official 2nd single. katy also sang the radio edit of the song (solo) after this incident. she reportedly unfollowed the group on instagram
Katy Perry owning up to her mistakes and apologizing for cultural appropriation:
also don’t believe the lies that said the Drag Queens weren’t paid.

everyone believed everything the media had to say about Katy. it’s sad cuz her team didn’t release any statements or anything whatsoever.
the Bon Appétit controversy was one of the many things that led to her Witness album (artistically her best album & a grower), era, & her own image being massively crucified.

Katy Perry deserves better than this.
she released an album 2 months ago btw if y’all didn’t know: http://katy.to/smile
