'badbye' is predominantly a song of "separation" for bad blood, under worst circumstances. The unasked question lies hidden thru out the song: with whom is the separation in context. The song speaks volumes bout how deadly a break up can be, n not every break up needs to be w+
Another person: as in breaking bridges, or connections one has w some entity that can range from a place to oneself. The shortest track holding quite some emotions n regret, like a story of utmost philosophy narrated in a line or two by Joon himself n I'm in love w Joon's mind+
The way I see it, the essence of the greeting has been altered, we usually say "goodbye" but in here, it's "bad"bye, implying the ending was not on good terms, the ending had bad blood. I believe the ending in context is something left for the listeners to interpret, to me it is+
An ending w one's fake self, the mask adorned to fit into the norms as stated by the community (which could be friends, colleagues, neighborhood or the society on a larger scale), an ending on bad terms hence the "bad" bye, the sad farewell. Taking a moment to think about it+
When we try to fit into society's multiple ideas of ourselves, it only damages us in the end, we get hurt, we obtain scars n wounds, similar to wearing shoes that leave us w blisters all over our feet. N when we open the shoes, it pains our feet for a bit n gradually fades+
A painful farewell isn't it? In life too, when we try to fit into other's description of ourselves, we tend to hide our originality, our selves, but when we finally take off the mask n exposes ourselves, we realize the damage done to us n it hurts to realize we allowed it to+
Happen, we allowed others to inflict damage on us n we chose to stay ignorant to it, "don't say goodbye", "cuz it's a lie" clearly depicts how we try to convince ourselves of the bright side of the situation that we were finally able to pull off our masks n fail miserably cuz+
We are too engulfed by our agony n sorrowful realization surrounding our damages that the light doesn't reach our eyes in any way. The goodness of the farewell feels like a lie n we believe it to be so. We hear Joon in the background during, "Kill me Kill me softly"+
Stating how it does destroy us more, the separation w our masks becomes all the more painful when the realization dawns on us, which makes me the feel that "softly" is an irony here, all the more cuz the lyric that follows, "have me be scattered as fragments": it's like+
Exploding w pain n addressing it as soft n painless, also the way it is performed in the song, I feel it's a major irony here, also a representation of how we often belittle our own sufferings saying, "this is okay, this pain.....is okay" when we know it's clearly not. It's a+
"bad try" to convince ourselves of that, a "bad try", a failed attempt at fitting into others description of us as individuals. And we cry. We realize the mistakes n the damages, we allowed others to Inflict on us. The "you" could be possible ref. To the mask, saying u know why+
I cry, u are the reason behind it. And I cry. The song ends on a rather depressing note, no different from the song which is very much build on a melancholic tone, it has a feel of being locked up in massive room, big enough for own voice to echo, like ur words coming back at u.
In conclusion, Joon talks on the societal issues we face in our lives at some point, n no matter when we face it, the experience, on a broader level remains the same, n how difficult it becomes to cope w the pain n realization when all of it is actually suffocating us real bad.

KIM NAMJOON IS THE RARER KIND OF ARTIST
WHO SPEAKS ON THE STRUGGLES OF OUR DAILY LIFE THAT WE FACE BUT FEEL HESITANT TO SPEAK BOUT THINKING THESE ARE MINOR PROBLEMS
, BUT JOON UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IT ALL N SPEAKS ON THE SAME CUZ HE UNDERSTANDS US LIKE NO OTHER

Now that you understand the depth n pain entangled in the song better, give this track of pain a listen today: https://open.spotify.com/track/5Qg0xK4s85tINbQcJD3GDq?si=BpYjL43xTdKEcgQG1aAuKw
I would like to add that this was the first track from mono ive ever heard. The first time I listened to mono was to get the vibe of the it n this track hit me. I was in a rather bad place n it exposed all my scars in an inexplicable way. I wrote this based on my memories.
