The Knowledge Project @farnamstreet interview with @chamath was one of the best interviews I've ever heard. (Thanks @ShaneAParrish)

Here are a few of my notes and a mind map 🧠 of the conversation. (made with @ConceptsApp ) 🧵...

The interview centered on two topics: The Path to Freedom and the Path to Happiness. First the Path to Happiness.

2/
Everyone's Path to Happiness is unique. For Chamath, this comes from having a Sanctuary at home and people to talk to. This improves his mental and physical health allowing him to make big, high-stress decisions

3/
Path to Freedom - If people believed they could be self-sufficient, it would solve a lot of inequality problems.

4/
Chamath sees himself as a Keen Observer of the Present which allows him to make big decisions about the future.

5/
Politics - Today's politics and election are more about style rather than substance. Republicans and Democrats are largely aligned on many topics like foreign policy, intertwined fiscal and monetary policy including big spending.

6/
Investing - Rather than trying to predict which way things like interest rates will go, Chamath invests based on what will benefit either way. 📈

- E-commerce
- Healthcare
- Education
- Clean energy
- Food
- Alternative assets

7/
CEOs - Best CEOs are great capital allocators, re-investing and growing the business rather than returning capital. 💸

@JeffBezos was the best at this. He turned every @amazon expense into a revenue stream.

8/
CEOs need integrity and mental agility. How they think is more important than what they know. 🧠

Best CEOs for the next decade: @elonmusk , @JeffBezos , @tobi , @jack , @chamath 😉

9/
Behavior and Psychology - rather than trying to find an edge through algorithms or conferences, build principles and rules to protect you from yourself. 📏

10/
Perspective - Chamath allows himself to be taken in by the narrative of the person he's considering investing in and seeing the world through their eyes. His team helps bring him back to center.🔖

11/
Efficiency - Business school teaches elimination of redundancy. It's a waste that can be turned profit. The result is ultra-efficient, zero-redundancy companies and countries outsourcing everything even if it's critically important.

(More on this: https://turningchaos.com/essays/efficiency-vs-risk)

12/
Government - Government should take big, bold bets and push the boundaries, not rely on companies like @spacex to do it. 🚀

13/
Mental health - Women outlive men because men are discouraged from talking about their feelings which impacts their mental health.

Mental health is key, and Chamath takes care of his by talking to his team, family, and friends. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
