Third week of early voting in Ohio starts tomorrow. So far in 60 of 88 counties - a mix of small, medium and large counties - 1,667,476 Ohioans have voted early in person or requested absentee ballots. That's a 34% increase over the total of 1,242,568 who did so in ALL of 2016.

Just over half of the 1.6 m who've voted/requested ballots are unaffiliated - a 52% increase over unaffiliated who voted in person and requested absentee ballots in all of 2016. There's a 63% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 15% drop in Republican affiliated voters.

In very red Warren County so far in 2020, there's been a 35% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all of 2016. There’s been a 61% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 124% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and an 18% drop in Republican-affiliated early voters.

In blue Mahoning County, there's been a 33% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all of 2016. There’s been a 51% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 48% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and an 23% drop in Republican-affiliated early voters.

Trump won Erie County by 9.56% - a bellwether. There's been a 29% increase of early votes/absentee requests over those in all of 2016. There’s a 65% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 43% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 31% drop in Republican-affiliated voters.

Lake County is thought to be the bellwether this year. There's a 41% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all those in 2016. There’s a 57% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 97% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 15% drop in GOP-affiliated early voters.

Democrat Hillary Clinton won Lorain County by less than a tenth of a point. There's a 37% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all those in 2016. There’s a 62% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 58% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 28% drop in GOP voters.

In Republican-leaning Delaware County so far in 2020, there's a 41% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all of 2016. There’s a 79% increase in unaffiliated voters, Democratic-affiliated voters have more than doubled and a 26% drop in GOP-affiliated voters from 2016.

In Franklin County, blue since '96, so far in 2020 there's been a 27% increase of early votes/absentee requests from all of 2016. There’s been a 48% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 50% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 46% drop in Republican-affiliated voters.

Summit County has voted Democratic since '88. So far in 2020, there's a 54% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all those in '16. There’s an 82% increase in unaffiliated voters, and a 74% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 26% drop in GOP affiliated voters.

In swing Portage County, which Trump won by almost 10%, so far there's a 52% increase of early votes/absentee requests over all of 2016. There’s a 73% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 94% increase in Democratic-affiliated voters and a 20% drop in Republican-affiliated voters.

In 2016, Montgomery County went to a GOP pres candidate for the 1st time in 28 yrs. So far, there's a 34% increase of early votes/absentee ballots over all of '16. That's a 55% increase in unaffiliated voters, a 52% increase in Democratic-affiliated and a 22% drop in GOP voters.

The partisan breakdowns are interesting but aren't meant to imply a conclusion. It appears unaffiliated voters are driving these increases. But Democratic-affiliated voters are still turning out in big numbers while Republican-affiliated turnouts are still down from 2016.
