dad wwx dressing a-yuan up in this for halloween

when they go trick or treating one of the doors they knock on is lwj's, who has just moved in a week ago and ofc he answers the door with healthy snacks for the kids

a-yuan wrinkles his nose at the strange looking packaging, which isn't what the chocolate and candy normally looks like but he can't read yet and he was raised by his baba to be polite so ofc he says thank you and puts it in his basket anyway

but then he catches sight of a furry little white thing from behind lwj's legs and lets out a delighted squeal of "bunny!"

wwx catches him by the back of his shirt just in time. "a-yuan you can't just barge into someones house, thats not polite"

and if lwj wasn't already going to say yes the big eyes a-yuan gives him as he say "please?" in the cutest little voice would definitely do it.

"you may see them"

"aha i'm, sorry he's obsessed with them, you don't have to say yes! i'm wei ying by the way, this is a-yuan! you must be new i haven't seen you around? i definitely would've remembered, we live just across the road!'

lwj just blinks at all the info not knowing how to respond.

"lan zhan, i moved in on monday.'

"nice to meet you lan zhan! a-yuan say hi."

"hi," he says quickly then looks up at wei ying. "baba bunnies now?"

wwx looks sheepishly at lwj, "sorry he's not usually so rude," he looks at his son pointedly as he says the last word.

a-yuan, to his credit, looks slightly chastened.

lwj should be wondering if letting two random strangers into his house is such a good idea (even if one of them is a child), but the bright smile wwx gives him as they take off their shoes makes him forget how to think for a few seconds.

to a-yuans delight, there are /two/ bunnies lazily hopping around on the floor and he jumps up and down in excitement when he sees them.

"baba two bunnies!"

"yes i can see that darling" wwx says in amusement, looking at lwj with a raised eyebrow as if to say 'kids? am i right'

lwj picks up the the white bunny and moves to place it into a-yuan's arms, who gasps and holds out his arms reverently and holds very still.

"gently" wwx and lwj say at the same time.

wwx gives a surprised look to lwj and smiles as he helps a-yuan sit down with the rabbit.

"what's you name mister bunny?" a-yuan whispers to the rabbit as if it could actually reply back to him.

lwj hesitates, embarrassed. which is silly because it's not like he was the one who named them. "...this one is baobao, and the the back one is beibei"

wwx laughs at that and lwj is pretty sure he might be a little bit in love.

"oh that's precious lan zhan, you're really a big softie underneath aren't you?"

lwj is pretty sure his ears are red. "they were named already when i adopted them," he clarifies

a-yuan however, ignores that and grins wide. "that's what my baba calls me too!'

"yes i do and its because you just as adorable as the bunnies aren't you my little radish? oh lan zhan look at him, do you mind if i take pictures?" he says, already pulling out his phone.

wwx takes an alarmingly large amount of pictures in the span of exactly five (5) seconds.

eventually a-yuan gets brave enough to let the animal down and find beibei, playing with the toys lwj tells him to help himself to.

the two adults watch as a-yuan tries to unsuccessfully teach them to jump over his arm.

meanwhile they talk. well wwx talks, lwj adds in a few words here and there. but for someone who prefers silence and being alone he finds he doesn't really mind wwx's constant chatter.

it feels far too soon when wwx suddenly catches sight of the clock on the wall and exclaims in suprise.

"oh no lan zhan, you've let me bore you for too long! you need to tell me to to shut up after the first 5 minutes you know or i'll go on forever haha"

i'd love to listen to you talk forever thinks lwj. instead he says, "it wasn't boring, i enjoyed it." he means every word.

wwx flushes a bit and lwj thinks it makes him look even prettier. "ah well, we should get going shouldn't we a-yuan?" he says, avoiding lwj's eyes

"already?" a-yuan replies with disappointment, lwj shares the same sentiments.

"a-yuan you've bothered this nice gege for far too long. let's go home it's bedtime soon," he holds out his hand but a-yuan makes no move to take it. his bottom lip wobbles.

wwx recognises the signs of an impending temper tantrum and quickly crouches down to talk to his son.

"come on baobao, you had fun yeah? now it's time to go home don't be like that."

a-yuans round eyes fill with tears and wwx winces when he realises what he'd just called him.

lwj steps in.

"you can come back to see them next time."

/lan zhan/ wwx mouths at him, shaking his head.

a-yuan turns to face lwj, regarding him suspiciously. "next time when?"

"whenever you wish."

"lan zhan!" wwx hisses at him.

"...tomorrow?" a-yuan asks hopefully.

"if you want."

"thank you gege!" he cries, flinging himself at lwj's legs and beaming toothily. lwj gives a small smile in return.

when a-yuan is putting on his shoes by the doorway wwx learns forward to whisper in his ear. lwj tries not to think of the fact that wwx smells like baby powder and something else he can't place, he would like to find out.

"it's okay lan zhan, i'll make up some excuse for him tomorrow. thanks for saving me back there."

lwj frowns. "excuse for what?"

wwx raises an eyebrow. "the b-u-n-n-i-e-s?"

"wei ying, i was being serious." lwj does break promises, especially not to little children

"oh. it's.. it's not a bother?"

"not at all," lwj replies sincerely.

the responding smile wwx gives him is beautiful. "careful lan zhan, you'll spoil him," he teases. "well, i guess you have a weakness for cute things huh?"

yes. thinks lwj looking right at wwx.

wwx picks up a-yuan's candy basket, the vitamin gummies lwj had given them are lying on top.

"say bye and thank you to lan zhan sweetheart."

a-yuans dutifully repeats it and lwj nods at him. wwx is a good parent. "you are very welcome"

"thanks again lan zhan. i'll see you tomorrow. and i won't come empty handed this time!"

"good night wei ying"

"i hope you know that there's no turning back now, we're gonna annoy you all the time," wwx says grinning over his shoulder.

lwj thinks he might not mind that at all
