Up since 3 am demoralized and upset about our upcoming mediation with the school district. Just trying to get our son the education he's owed. I never thought it would be this hard.
I am not allowed to talk about the mediation.
But the idea that my sons FAPE in LRE (google it) is him sitting alone in a room with no help and an aide on the other side of a screen is laughable. And illegal.
What's more, thanks to lots of work from state employees, non-profits, and folks like us, the MN Dept of Ed has a solution: schools are allowed to hire PCAs (google it) through "qualified providers" to help with distance learning.
Side note: we are not allowed to use medicaid money to pay a PCA to help our son with his education, though the Wisconsin DHS got permission from the federal HHS to do just that; MN's DHS hasn't managed that. Sorry for all the acronyms. Bureaucracy makes this hard.
Side Side Note: But we eventually got MDE (MN Dept Ed) to approve their workaround, but with "may" instead of "must."
The secret about my son is that he's easy to education, in the sense that the accommodations he needs are easily identifiable and not all that expensive. And yet here we are, without support, and without an explanation why other than "no we don't want to."
anyway I can't sleep and I'm so angry at people with whom I'd rather collaborate in educating my son.

Which his right as a human.
But also specifically his right under well-tested federal law.

If today fails, tomorrow we hire a lawyer.
