As announced by OGCI Chairman Bob Dudley on Day 1 of #BNEFSummit with @PerkinsDanaM, OGCI is today reporting significant progress on our aggregate upstream #methane and #carbon intensity targets.
We have surpassed our original upstream methane intensity target of 0.25% and will now aim to lower methane intensity to 0.20% by 2025. Progress so far represents a 22% in absolute upstream methane emissions since 2017.
We also share progress against our recently launched carbon intensity target. Actions by our members resulted in a 7%in collective average upstream carbon intensity since 2017 to 21.1 kg CO2e/boe in 2019. This reduced absolute upstream emissions by 21M tonnes of CO2e.
Our members are now focused on achieving the low-end target of 20 kg/boe. Achieving this would mean a of 13% in carbon intensity over the 2017 baseline.
