The attack, in January, is believed to be the first Isis-inspired terror attack inside a UK prison

It was one of four allegedly carried out by serving or freed prisoners in the past year, and there are concerns about prison security, probation monitoring and deradicalisation
The HMP Whitemoor attack trial exposed numerous failings

Both men had access to Isis propaganda, a smuggled SD card and mobile phone inside the jail. Brusthom Ziamani was a terrorist prisoner and Baz Hockton - an exceptionally violent offender - was radicalised on the inside
The Ministry of Justice says it has safeguards in place to prevent and monitor extremism, but neither man had raised concerns and Ziamani was about to be given a “certificate of achievement” after apparently complying with a deradicalisation programme for eight months
The justice secretary launched an internal review of the custodial management of terrorist prisoners, including looking at deradicalisation courses, after the attack in January

But it was not publicly announced, as the govt pushes for longer terror sentences and more jail time
There are already a record number of people in custody for terror-related offences in Britain - 3/4 Islamist extremists, 19% as far right and 6% other

A prison officer told me staff had “no control” over extremist inmates, adding: “I don’t see any end to the attacks whatsoever"
