So a few thoughts on the postponement of St.Mirren vs Motherwell late in the day on Saturday.

Firstly it goes without saying that first thought is that the three Saints players confirmed as having the virus are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms and recover quickly.

Secondly it's a shame for Motherwell who through no fault of their own have now not played a league game since Oct 27th.

They also haven't (yet anyway) "benefitted" (if that is the right term) from playing teams who would have been weakened by players missing.

2/
I saw a lot of chat over the weekend about how St.Mirren are "clearly" not following protocols.

I'm not sure how anyone can be clear about that. The players are not living in a bubble, they are able to pick up the virus going about their day to day lives same as rest of us.

Both games that have been postponed for inability to fulfil the fixture will be subject to a full SPFL review.

As far as I am aware if the SPFL finds either Killie or St.Mirren were guilty of process breaches leading to outbreaks, Motherwell will be awarded a 3-0 victory.

I read some utter rubbish from Maurice Ross at the weekend suggesting teams should automatically forfeit games if they can't fulfil them.

I don't even know where to begin with that.

Literally punishing teams for catching a potentially deadly virus.

For fucks sake!

5/
My understanding is that the players are tested twice a week.

The initial St.Mirren positives were from the round of testing at start of the week, and the second positive (and subsequent isolations in relation to that) was from the second round of testing.

6/
Why it was as late as 12:30 on the day of the game I don't know but I'm sure that will come out in the investigation.

Saints couldn't just throw in some under-18s to make up the team because none of those players would have been tested during the week.

7/
I'm a St.Mirren fan but if the club fucked up somewhere along the line then absolutely they should be punished.

The investigation should clear this up fairly swiftly.

It's not a good look for the game but end of the day we all know the virus is pretty rampant right now.

Saints are now due to play Hamilton next Saturday and will only have max 12 outfield players available, 4 of whom are keepers.

I imagine they will be forced now to test some of the 18s during the week and patch up some sort of squad same as Killie did for Pars Betfred game?

9/
That in itself seems on the face of it a bit unfair in what is a huge game at the wrong end of the table, but if that's what they need to do then so be it.

Seems inevitable that every team is going to be affected by this at some point.

10/
You can only imagine the situation is going to be even worse in the lower leagues.

The price we pay for trying to run the leagues during a pandemic.

As long as the league apply rules consistently and fairly across the board then we just need to get on with it.

/11 and OUT!
