These are the median income levels for clubs in English football.
Big Six have 3.3x income of Other 14
Other 14 have 2.7x income of Parachute Payment clubs
Parachute clubs have 3.0x income of Other Champ clubs
Champ has 2.9x League 1
League 1 has 1.6x League 2
PBP will ⬆️gap between PL Big Six & PL Other clubs due to ⬇️ domestic fixtures, but ⬆️ Champ Lge matches. Also proposals allows clubs to sell their own TV rights internationally for 8 matches (& would only take 6 votes to extend this to all games) & keep 100% of money themselves
An NFL style system where money is pooled & spread between clubs could reduce all gaps. In NFL home clubs keep 60% of ticket sales & other 40% pooled. If same applied to EPL with say 60% home, 20% to rest of PL & 20% to EFL would benefit 86 out of 92 & make PL more competitive
People are criticising Joel Glazer, John Henry etc for PBP are wrong. Blame should be directed at Leicester City. By having the cheek to win the Premier League in 2016 & taking one of the Champions League places which should only go to the rich clubs they led to these schemes.
Big 6 wages 3x those of O14. PBP proposes wage caps for all EFL, but if in the PL clubs paying more than (say) 25% of median wage total paid a 20% levy on each extra £1 of wages then this could be redistributed to lower clubs and help sustainability and competitive balance.
